There are several types of skin rashes, they can cause lots of discomfort because they can be painful, itchy or damage your appearance. But how many kinds of rash are there ? This article is the bit of introduction to it. We will discuss some types of common rash, why they appear and how to treat them.  Most types of skin rashes however are benign or they are treatable.

Types of Skin Rashes

Eczema

This is one of the most common types of skin rashes another name of Eczema is atopic dermatitis.  The cause of this skin inflammation is majorly unknown. However it’s believed to be caused by immunity system problem, repeated contact with irritant materials or associated with dry skin.

  • Symptoms :
    • Appearance of scaly, red area on the skin. It sometimes grow papules and form scales on the skin. It can be painful and itchy.   The appearance and spread of papules can be the indication of severity of the disorder.
      • Low : few and scattered number of papules.
      • Moderate : More extensive and wider spread of the eczema.
      • Severe : Even more extensive involvements.
    • Occurrences :
      • skin area around neck, eyes, extremities and even face.
    • Risk factor :
      • Eczema can attack anyone regardless of race and gender.
    • Treatment :
      • If you contracting eczema you can self treat yourself by use of moisturizing products to keep your skin moist.
    • Prevention measures however is possible as follows :
      • Keep the moisture of the skin in regular manner
      • Use of non soap or soap product that can keep skin moistures are recommended
      • Application of thick moisturizers cream are recommended after bathing
      • Avoid direct sunlight or heat if possible.
      • Keep humidity at your surroundings stable.
    • When to seek medical assistance ? : If the self treatment does not yield any response.

Dermatitis

            There are two kinds of dermatitis. One is irritant dermatitis and another is allergic contact dermatitis. Both are caused by contacts or direct injury of the skin by chemical or other substance that can cause allergic reactions.  There are several kinds of dermatitis. However they often causing similar symptoms.

  • Symptoms :
    • appearance of rash accompanied by pain or stinging reaction. The affected skin area may develop cracks.  The differences  between irritant and allergic is in time of appearance. Irritant dermatitis symptoms appear just in few hours after contact while allergic appears about one or three days after contact with the substance.
  • Occurrences :
    • Any skin part that exposed to the allergic or irritant agents.
  • Risk factor :
    • Often seen on women aged of 16-45 years old. However occurrences in children is not uncommon.
  • Treatment :
    • for dermatitis must begin with removal or reduction of allergenic and irritant matter from your surroundings.
  • Prevention :
    • Complete avoidance or reduction of the allergic/irritant substance.
  • When to seek doctor ? :
    • Doctor’s assistance must be sought if symptoms does not disappear in 4-6 weeks.

Furuncles (boils)

This is a painful, puss filled growth. This types of skin rashes is caused by bacteria infection of hair follicles.  The bacteria causing this is called as staph or Staphylococcus aureus. The bacteria itself however is a normal dwellers on our skin. It usually won’t cause any problem but, in case when our immunity system breaks down or suppressed, small scratch or increase in staph numbers can cause infection. 

  • Symptoms :
    • Appearance of red rash in the skin. Often accompanied with growth of lump filled with pus. It can be painful and annoying.
  • Occurrences :
    • Any part of skin. But often happens at place which subject to friction or sweaty.
  • Risk Factor :
    • Commonly found in young adults or children.
    • This disease often attacks people with problems in its immunity system, lots of people living together in a place (Athlete, soldiers in barracks etc). Where sharing of personal equipment may a commonplace.
  • Treatment :
    • Self treatment includes compress of the lump using warm water for 20 minutes. The compress should be repeated 3-4 times a day to promotes drain of the boils.
    • Should the boils drain, wash the area with antibacterial soap and apply antibiotic ointment. Use loose bandage to the wounds. Repeat the process 2-3 times a day until the skin is healed.
    • DO NOT. Try to drain or pop the boils yourself. If needed to do so it should be doctor.
  • Prevention :
    • Prevention for boils includes improving sanitary, and health Boils are highly contagious. Thus it’s recommended that the victim of boils not to share any personal equipment with other person.

Cellulitis

This painful skin rash is caused by bacteria infection. Often caused by Streptococcus or Staphylococcus. They can enter the inner part of the skin through small fissures or wounds.  Beside visible impact on skin. The infection may also be accompanied by fever.  Location of the disease may vary. Not only around eyes, but also limbs and other body part.  This infection can be more severe than boils as it often accompanied by fever and nausea.

  • Symptoms :
    • sudden redness and swelling of the skin. May accompanied by fever, lymph node. Early stage of infection the skin may look pink with small area. It can rapidly spread outward and turn into deeper red color. At later stage of disease pus may form inside the swelling part of the infected area.
  • Occurences :
    • Any part of skin, most common locations however are arms, face and lower legs.
  • Risk Factor :
    • This disease can affect anyone, any gender and any age. The risk increased if the person have diseases like diabetes, Lymphedema, skin wounds and weakened immune system.
  • Treatment :
    • It is imperative to see doctor as soon as you have cellulitis. Pain can be treated with compression of the area with moist cold towel.
  • Prevention :
    • Healthy life And improvements in sanitary.
  • When to seek doctor ? :
    • Immediately, especially as soon as you feel fever along with swelling of the skin part.
